Ornament Finishing

Two methods for framing your ornament are listed. And if you sew, you can certainly sew a cute ornament, but many people today don't sew, sooo... Either method below will give you a cute ornament to hang on your tree, or make a cute gift for someone.

Basically creating my own ornament.

Supplies needed:
*Foam board, found at WalMart or hobby type stores. I only found a large one so have plenty to do more ornaments.

*Glue - I used both roll on paste glue (Elmers) and a hot glue gun

*Felt, again small pieces about 12" are available at some WalMart's and most hobby stores.

*Ribbon (only need a small amount) to use for your hanger

*Braid trim for final finishing

Gather your supplies and get started.
1. Cut a piece of foam in a circle the size I want the ornament to be. Then cut the finished (and ironed) cross stitch at least an inch larger circle than the foam.

2. Glue the cross stitch onto the foam - I used the roll on paste glue - be sure to center it on the foam.

3. Roll the edges of the cross to the back of the foam and glue with hot glue. NOTE: You'll only be able to do a tiny section at a time to take care of the folds. Careful with the fingers and the hot glue.

4. Fashion your hanger from ribbon and hot glue to the top back.

5. Cut felt piece the size of the ornament and hot glue to back.

6. Hot Glue braid all around the edge for a final finished look.

Enjoy - or you've just created a great little gift.

Using a pre-purchased round plastic frame

The easy way is to purchase the small round plastic frames. My ornaments will fit in the 3"plus frames. They come in all colors, I usually use white and tie a small bow at the top. However, these are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Apparently manufacturers are slacking off.

Using a frame you'll need:
*Small plastic frame

*Foam, glue and ribbon as listed above

*Christmas paper, scrapbook Christmas paper or felt

And, here we go:
1. Cut a piece of foam in a circle the exact size of the inside of the frame. Cut your finished and ironed cross stitch the same size as the foam.

2. Glue the cross stitch onto the foam - I used the roll on paste glue - be sure to center it on the foam.

3. Cut a piece of Christmas paper (or felt) the size of the ornament and hot glue to back.

4. Tie a cute little bow around the top of the frame.

Enjoy - you've just created another ornament.
